30 Days In The Hole

I had arrived home just in time to read in the Rhinoceros Times that the Alien Factory on Battleground Avenue had been demolished by D H Griffin leaving me to wonder if Daniele Bostian actually knew about the Aliens before the rest of us did and had been trying to warn us all along. You see, Daniele Bostian had actually dubbed the building the Alien Factory many years before. Steve and Wooley had surmised the tearing town of the factory meant that the Aliens planned to leave very soon and that made the Aliens destruction even more imperative.

Marikay and Nancy had reported to us that keeping the Tall Whites on a diet of municipal water had dumbed them down to the point that they were babbling and making weird faces in front of the television cameras during City Council meetings but it appeared our city water had no effect on the Greys unless it was to make them even more evil and distressing than ever before.

The plan Bobbie, Alex and the girls had cooked up, while not without merit, had problems of its own. How long could they continue to play 'C' notes? What if the Aliens had the means to turn off the electricity? What if they had hearing protection? What if it only effected the Tall Whites and not the Greys? What if they fired on us with ray guns or whatever sort of advanced weapons the Aliens might have? What if they were to panic and launch their space ship while everyone was still gathered around playing 'C' notes? I applauded the girls for their passive resistance. It's an honorable trait to which I aspire but wars require bloodshed and like it or not, Greensboro was about to be at war or die.

Of course, learning that my brother was being held captive by the Aliens gave me mixed feelings as to how to go about attacking them. Had it been most people the decision would have been easier but when you risk killing your own brother in an effort to destroy the enemy... Well, I think anyone would have to think about that one long and hard even if an entire city was at risk.

Still, there were things about the girls' plan that we could use to make weapons to be used against the aliens. Knowing that a perfect 'C' note caused unbearable pain in the Tall Whites gave us a starting place. Weapons could be designed that could be mounted on vehicles or carried in one's pocket and fired from great distances. It might be possible that 'C' notes could be played at scales beyond the range of human hearing and fired at the Tall Whites at volumes so loud it would mean instant death. All we would need to do is wait until we saw one out walking or riding his bicycle and pull the trigger. If he fell over dead we'd know we were on to something and nobody would be the wiser. Bobbie and I started trying to figure out how to build an ultrasonic weapon while we waited for Wooley and Steve to return with Epa and his team.

Donny searched the air conditioning ducts for hours and hours before he finally found a room that appeared to have natural sunlight beaming inside. He wasn't sure he could find his way back to where the humans were being held in cages nor was he sure he'd be able to find his way back once he found them.
