Turtle On A Fence Post

"Why are the Greys like they are?" Wooley asked.

"They live on an exoplanet," the Tall White answered. "It cannot sustain their population because their sun is dead."

"What's an exoplanet?" Steve asked.

"It's a planet that exists outside the Solar System," Wooley answered.

"Correct," the Tall White confirmed. "They are unable to sustain life there without taking massive amounts of resources from Earth and unable to live in Earth's atmosphere for more than a few months at a time."

"So they're trapped like a turtle on a fence post," Steve said.

"But some of them have been on the Greensboro City Council for years," Wooley said.

"Because they are disguised as humans it is easy for them to switch places," the Tall White explained. "What you think of as one might have been dozens."

"That would explain why they keep getting tripped up on quotes in the media," Steve said.

"Exactly," Wooley agreed, "the latest one wouldn't know what the ones before him had said."

"There is one more thing I need to tell you," The Tall White spoke as they neared the surface and looked out on the grass and trees for the first time in weeks.

"What's that?" Wooley asked.

"The bears you will see between here and the fence you eventually come to are only illusions  put here to keep people away from this entrance-- they cannot hurt you."

"That's good," Steve said.

"But," the Tall White added, "the wolves are very real."

"That's reassuring," Wooley mumbled.

The Grey Alien Bobbie, Alex and the mutants had kidnapped wasn't talking. While some on our team wanted to resort to torture to get it to talk, Bobbie and Alex refused to go that route. I suggested we tie it up in a tiny room and let it listen to my motorcycle recite poetry 24/7 for a few weeks but Bobbie was concerned that might only turn it into a babbling idiot that would not be able to provide us with anything useful even if it wanted to. I agreed she was probably on to something as the almost non stop poetic narration of its life was about to push me over the edge as well. If anyone ever offers you a deal on a talking motorcycle, make sure it doesn't talk in rhyming verse.

________

Bobbie was riding east on Interstate 40 when she noticed an older Cadillac sedan weaving erratically as it made its way quickly through multiple lanes of traffic behind her. Preparing for the worst she moved to the left of her lane, downshifted and switched on the eddy current generator Donny had installed on her motorcycle. "I don't trust this thing," she mumbled to herself as she watched the Caddy closing in her mirrors.

When the Caddy pulled along side her rear wheel it swerved to hit her motorcycle! Bobbie quickly swerved right, twisted the throttle and punched the button for the nitrous-oxide injectors causing the front wheel to lift slightly from the road and giving her an almost instantaneous 30 miles per hour boost in speed! As the front wheel gently touched the road she shifted into high gear and accelerated to over 110 miles per hour!

But the old V-8 Caddy was not to be left behind so easily. Bobbie's motorcycle could easily out accelerate the Cadillac but on the Interstate, on top end, Bobbie knew the Caddy would catch her again as she was very near the top end speed for her bike. "I knew I should have bought that Hayabusa!" Bobbie shouted as her motorcycle reached a top speed of almost 130 miles per hour with the Caddy creeping up behind!

Looking ahead she saw the exit for Rock Creek Dairy Road coming up on the right. At the last second she crossed 3 lanes of traffic barely making the ramp and hooked a hard right south on Rock Creek Dairy Road as cars piled up on the Interstate from the Caddy's effort to do the same! Through the curves on Rock Creek she road as fast as she could go the Caddy still too close for comfort. He heard gun fire as the bullets bounced off the eddy currents that surrounded her!

She then made a quick left, not sure where it would go then a right down a driveway, behind a farm house and across several fields! The Caddy, while not as close still wasn't giving up the chase. She powered her way up a steep grade and when almost to the top turned hard right skidding into a tree, the impact knocking her from her motorcycle and tossing her several yards through the air before she started skidding across the ground eventually catching hold of a bush just in time to keep from falling down the other side of the grade!

As she looked up the Caddy passed just inches from her and disappeared over the grade, its motor revving wildly just before she heard a big splash! Bobby scrambled to the edge where she laid there for several minutes looking at the bottom side of a Cadillac as it sank out of sight. With trembling hands she clutched the tiny pistol in her pocket, the one she hoped she would never have to use, and watched to see if anyone came up for air. Finally, when no one did, she reached for her phone and dialed 9-1-1. "9-1-1 Emergency," the operator answered, "Can you give us the address of your emergency?"

"Ah.." Bobbie stammered, still shaken "I think it might be Lake Mackintosh. You know, the Burlington water supply."
